What is your superpower?
You already run a creation cycle. Current → Desired → Actions → Results. It shows up in science, military strategy, product development — everywhere creation happens reliably. The question is whether you complete it, and where you get stuck when you do not.
It is not something anyone invented. It is the pattern underneath every discipline that reliably produces results — in science (hypothesis → experiment → observation → conclusion), in military strategy (OODA: observe → orient → decide → act), in product development (build → measure → learn).
That awareness — the ability to see the cycle, name where you are in it, and move through the blocks — is the Superpower. Not one of many. THE one. The engine underneath every other result in your life.
Why does the creation cycle matter now?
There are 29.8 million solopreneurs in the United States (Upwork/MBO Partners, 2025) and 64% say their business would not have grown without AI (Zoom/Upwork AI Report, 2025). Yet the average solopreneur earns $39,273 (Founder Reports, 2026). When everyone can build, building confers no advantage. Completing cycles does.
The tools have never been more powerful. AI inference costs have fallen 1,000x in two years (a16z analysis). The cost of building has never been lower. And yet: 36% make less than $25,000 from their business. 70% of solo builders operate under $1,000 per month in revenue.
The bottleneck is not capability. AI solved the capability problem. The bottleneck is direction — the ability to complete a creation cycle from honest assessment through to measurable results without getting stuck, scattered, or burned out.
What are the three superpowers?
The four phases are waypoints. The three transitions between them are the actual superpowers — the movements that turn vision into reality. If you get blocked at any one, the whole cycle stalls.
Starting: Current → Desired
Starting is the transition from where you are to where you want to be. It requires two things most people avoid: brutal honesty about current reality, and surgical precision about what you actually want.
Starting is also the movement of escape and arrival. You escape the pains of your current situation — the things you will no longer tolerate — and arrive at the gains of your desired situation — the things that genuinely excite you. Every creation begins with this dual movement: away from what is not working, toward what could be.
The block: You cannot conceive. You either cannot see where you actually are (denial, comfortable numbness, the story you tell yourself) or you cannot imagine where you could be (limited self-image, vague desires, goals borrowed from other people).
The pain: When your Current assessment is incomplete, your body tells the truth even when your mind does not — energy dims, thinking fogs, patience shortens. The metabolic health crisis documented in the Personal Success Puzzle is what incomplete Current assessments look like in biological terms. You mistake the compromised state for normal because everyone around you feels the same way.
Jobs you are trying to do: Clarify what is actually true about your situation. Define what you genuinely want — not what sounds impressive, not what your parents expect, not what looks good on social media. Find the gap between reality and desire that is big enough to excite you and small enough to believe.
What Starting unlocks: The energy to move. The honest discomfort of confronting what is not working compresses into a clear vision of what could be. The contrast itself is the fuel. You cannot clearly define what you want until you have felt what you do not want.
Deep dive: The Genius Process explains the four phases in detail. The Sweet Spot covers the principle that makes goals actually work — big enough to excite, small enough to believe. Your Zone of Genius helps you identify where your natural wiring creates the most leverage.
Focusing: Desired → Actions
Focusing is the transition from vision to structured execution. It requires turning an exciting but abstract desire into a concrete hierarchy of steps — and then committing to one path instead of hedging across many.
The block: You cannot believe. You have the dream but cannot commit to a concrete plan. Doubt creeps in. You research endlessly instead of starting. You keep multiple options open so you never have to risk being wrong about any single one. The shotgun approach — scattering effort across five ideas hoping one sticks — is the signature failure mode of Focusing.
The pain: The average knowledge worker switches tasks every 3 minutes and 5 seconds, and it takes 23 minutes to fully regain focus after a distraction (Gloria Mark, UC Irvine). In a fragmented attention environment, the gap between Desired and Actions becomes a graveyard of half-started projects.
Jobs you are trying to do: Convert your vision into a hierarchy that you can actually execute. Dream (no deadline, north star) → Chief Aim (6-12 months, in the sweet spot) → Objectives (1-6 months) → Goals (30 days) → Daily Action Steps. Choose one chief aim. Make an irrevocable decision. Take action within 48 hours or the energy dissipates.
What Focusing unlocks: Kinetic energy. The shift from thinking about doing to actually doing. When the thinking is aligned (90% of the work), the action feels pleasurable — not like grinding, not like sacrifice. If execution consistently feels like struggle, the thinking is wrong.
Deep dive: The Capacity Formula shows the equation — Achievement Capacity = Integrated Processing Power minus Coordination Costs plus Supertechnology Amplification. Completing Cycles covers the 48-hour rule and why open loops silently drain your capacity. The Training Balance Scale explains the 90/10 ratio that most people invert.
Finishing: Actions → Results
Finishing is the transition from execution to measurable outcomes. It requires tracking what actually happened — not what you hoped would happen, not how busy you were — and using that feedback to start the next cycle.
The block: You cannot achieve. You have the plan, you are taking action, but you confuse activity with accomplishment. You do not chart progress. You do not know your numbers. You give up during the invisible growth phase — the bamboo tree that grows underground for years before breaking through.
The pain: Research covering 138 studies with nearly 20,000 participants found that regularly monitoring progress significantly improves goal attainment (Harkin et al., Psychological Bulletin). Yet most people never measure. They feel busy. They check off tasks. They mistake motion for progress. The consequence: cycles that start with energy die quietly in the gap between action and results.
Jobs you are trying to do: Know the score. Track with graphs (trends), not just numbers (snapshots). Build the momentum cycle: small wins → confidence → more activity → success habits → bigger wins. Find the gold in every adversity — every setback contains information about what you actually want. And most critically: recognize that what you become through the process matters more than what you get from it.
What Finishing unlocks: Reflective energy. The feedback that makes the next cycle sharper. Results become the new Current — and the loop never ends. Each completion starts the next cycle at a higher level. This is why the Genius process is fractal: it works at the scale of a five-minute journal entry, a 30-day sprint, a 6-month project, a multi-year life transition.
Deep dive: Degen to Regen maps the cycle to nervous system states and explains why protecting your regenerative state protects everything you are creating. The Superachiever Phenomenon documents the Starting-Focusing-Finishing pattern in builders creating at scales previously impossible.
The energy model: why each phase feels different
The creation cycle is an energy system, not just a planning framework. Each phase — contracted, expanded, kinetic, reflective — has a distinct quality that tells you where you are and what to do next.
| Phase | Energy State | What It Feels Like | What It Does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Current | Contracted | Uncomfortable, honest, sometimes painful | Compresses attention to what is real — generates fuel |
| Desired | Expanded | Exciting, clear, anticipatory — not longing | Directs contracted energy toward a specific target |
| Actions | Kinetic | Flowing, purposeful, pleasurable when aligned | Converts vision into structured execution |
| Results | Reflective | Grateful, analytical, ready for the next cycle | Provides feedback — becomes the new Current |
There is no good energy and bad energy. There is only energy. The contracted discomfort of the Current phase is not a problem to avoid — it is the fuel that powers everything else. Pain condenses and focuses. Vision expands and directs. Action converts. Reflection completes.
When the thinking is aligned, action feels like creation — pleasurable, energizing, hard to stop. When the thinking is wrong, action feels like obligation — draining, forced, producing nothing. That distinction is not motivational advice. It is the diagnostic: if execution consistently feels like drudgery, the problem is upstream in the Current or Desired phase, not downstream in effort or willpower.
The Training Balance Scale: 90% attitude, 10% technique
Ninety percent of creation is thoughts, attitude, and clarity. Ten percent is method and technique. Most people invert this ratio — investing heavily in tools and tactics while neglecting the honest thinking that makes action effective.
The honesty of your Current assessment, the precision of your Desired vision, the alignment of your Actions with what genuinely matters to you — that is the 90%. The specific tools, tactics, and steps are the 10%.
The proof is everywhere: a successful person teaches their exact method to a room of eager students. Same techniques. Same steps. Near-zero replication of results. Not because the method failed, but because method without aligned thinking produces nothing.
When thinking is right, the how presents itself. When your Current is honest, your Desired is in the sweet spot, and your decision is irrevocable — the specific actions become obvious. Not effortless, but obvious. Results do not follow effort. They follow aligned effort — clarity about what is true, precision about what you want, and commitment to one path.
This is why 64% of solopreneurs credit AI with their growth (Zoom/Upwork AI Report, 2025). AI handles the 10% — technique, execution, production — with extraordinary efficiency. But AI cannot supply the 90%. It cannot honestly assess your current reality. It cannot feel what you actually want. It cannot make an irrevocable decision. That remains yours.
Deep dive: The Training Balance Scale explores why most people invert this ratio and what it looks like when the balance is right.
Be, Do, Have: the engine reversal
The default operating system runs on Have-Do-Be: "When I HAVE enough money, I will DO what I want, and then I will BE happy." The creation cycle runs in the opposite direction — Be-Do-Have — and that reversal changes everything about how action feels and what it produces.
Be first. Align internally. Decide who you are becoming. Feel as if you already possess what you want — not as wishful thinking, but as a deliberate shift in self-image that changes what actions feel natural.
Do from alignment. When your internal state is clear, action flows from it rather than fighting against it. You do not grind toward goals that feel foreign. You act from a self-image that already includes the result.
Have as consequence. Results follow aligned action. Not instantly, not magically — but reliably. The Chinese bamboo tree grows underground for years before breaking through 90 feet in 60 days. The invisible growth phase is not failure. It is preparation.
The Have-Do-Be engine is degenerative. It puts you at the effect of circumstances — waiting for conditions to change before you can move. The Be-Do-Have engine is regenerative. It puts you at the cause — creating conditions through aligned thinking and action.
Deep dive: Be, Do, Have covers the full reversal and how it maps to the Genius process.
The release paradox
After feeling as if you already have what you want, release attachment to getting it. "I am 100% okay if this never happens." Wanting from fullness enables action; wanting from lack contracts and blocks it.
This is not contradiction. It is mechanics. Wanting from a place of lack — needing the external result to feel complete — creates a contracted state that blocks action. Wanting from a place of fullness — already feeling complete while moving toward something exciting — creates an expanded state that enables action.
The joy is in building, not having. Watch children build a sandcastle. They want to build it, not have it. The process of creation itself is the reward. If the process feels like sacrifice, something in the thinking is misaligned.
How does this apply to your life right now?
The creation cycle is fractal — the same pattern at every scale, from a five-minute journal entry to a multi-year life transition. It compresses as mastery grows.
| Scale | Current | Desired | Actions | Results |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5-minute entry | What is true right now? | What do I want today? | What is my one next step? | What happened? |
| 30-day sprint | Where does this month actually stand? | What would make this month a win? | What is the daily practice? | What moved? |
| 6-month project | Honest audit of the whole picture | The chief aim in the sweet spot | Hierarchy: objectives → goals → steps | Graphs, trends, momentum |
| Life transition | The full confrontation with current reality | The vision that excites and believes | Years of aligned execution | Becoming the person who creates this |
You apply the Superpower to two domains:
Your Personal Success Puzzle — Health and Energy (longevity), Wealth and Career (prosperity), Peace and People (happiness). The three interlocking pieces of a life that works.
Your Business Success Puzzle — Front-Stage Users, Back-Stage Admin, Bottom-Line Profit. The five executive roles (CEO, COO, CVO, CMO, CFO) mapped to the Business Model Canvas.
And when you are ready to multiply the cycle through strategic association, the Supermind — the Mastermind principle. Two or more people with the same goal working in harmony create a third mind that exceeds what any individual produces alone.
Where are you stuck?
If results are not matching effort, one of three things is true — and the fix is always upstream of where you think the problem is.
You are stuck Starting. You cannot conceive of what you want because you have not honestly confronted where you are. Or you have confronted it but cannot define a Desired state that is genuinely yours — not borrowed, not expected, not impressive-sounding. The fix is upstream: go back to Current. Write what is actually true. Then find the sweet spot — big enough to excite, small enough to believe.
You are stuck Focusing. You have the dream but cannot commit to one path. You scatter across multiple options. You research instead of deciding. You keep an exit open so you never fully risk. The fix is an irrevocable decision — "I am going to do it. That is it. Period." — followed by action within 48 hours. Not because urgency is productive, but because energy dissipates when it is not directed.
You are stuck Finishing. You are taking action but not completing cycles. Activity without accomplishment. Busy without measurable progress. The fix is simple and hard: chart your results. Track with graphs, not feelings. Set targets you know you can beat to build the momentum cycle — small wins create confidence, confidence creates activity, activity creates habits, habits create more wins.
The game's job — and this cornerstone's purpose — is to help you diagnose which block you face and move through it. Not with advice from the outside, but with recognition of what you already know on the inside.
